Code § 11-19-3","heading":"Adoption of Zoning Ordinances and Building Codes for Flood-Prone Areas Outside Municipalities.","body":"The county commission in each county of this state is hereby authorized and may adopt zoning ordinances and building codes for flood-prone areas which lie outside the corporate limits of any municipality in the county.\nEach such county commission shall have broad authority to:\n(1) Establish or cause to be established comprehensive land-use and control measures which shall specifically include the control and development of subdivisions in flood-prone areas;\n(2) Establish or cause to be established building codes and health regulations incorporating such minimum standards as shall be necessary to reduce flood damage in flood-prone areas;\n(3) Provide such standards of occupancy for the prudent use of flood-prone areas in the county;\n(4) Provide for the preparation of maps clearly delineating flood-prone areas and floodways in the county and to keep the same for public inspection;\n(5) Make such studies as may be necessary to carry out the purposes of this chapter;\n(6) Employ such technical and/or advisory personnel, including the establishment of a county planning commission, as is deemed necessary or expedient; and\n(7) Adopt ordinances for the enforcement of all such regulations.","path":["Title 11 Counties and Municipal Corporations.","Title 1 Provisions Applicable to Counties Only.","Chapter 19 Comprehensive Land-Use Management in Flood-Prone Areas."],"source_url":"https://alison.legislature.state.al.us/code-of-alabama?section=11-19-3","current_through":"Act 2026-611","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T14:01:51Z","sha256":"fdb1fba556b6e1c358676a159cfeffd01c77ff2ec689c244545b8c474d738867","source_id":"us-al","stale":false,"prev":"us-al/ala.-code-11-19-2","next":"us-al/ala.-code-11-19-4"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
