Code § 11-43A-82","heading":"Duties, Powers, and Rights of Mayor.","body":"The mayor shall preside at the meetings of the council and shall be recognized as the head of the municipal government for all ceremonial purposes. The mayor shall have the power to veto all ordinances and resolutions of a general and permanent nature, but shall otherwise have no vote on the council. An affirmative vote of five out of seven council members shall be required to override the veto of the mayor. The mayor shall have the right to bring any matter relating to the municipality to the council for discussion and debate, and the mayor shall have the right to enter into discussion and debate of all matters brought before the council and shall be notified of all meetings of the council.\nThe mayor shall have the power to appoint members of boards, authorities, and commissions only to the extent that such power is otherwise provided mayors in general by law.
