Code § 13A-10-11","heading":"Impersonating Peace Officer.","body":"(a) A person commits the crime of impersonating a peace officer if he or she does any of the following:\n(1) Falsely pretends to be a peace officer and does any act in that capacity.\n(2) Is employed as or otherwise accepts an appointment as a peace officer either:\na. Knowing that he or she is not eligible to serve as a peace officer under the laws of this state; or\nb. Knowing that his or her certification with the Alabama Peace Officers’ Standards and Training Commission has been revoked or suspended.\n(3) Employs, appoints, or otherwise facilitates a person serving as a peace officer when he or she knows the person is prohibited from serving as a peace officer under subdivision (2).\n(b) Impersonating a peace officer is a Class C felony.\n(c) For the purposes of this section, “peace officer” includes any officer or employee of the federal government vested by law with a duty to maintain public order or to make arrests for crimes, whether that duty extends to all crimes or is limited to specific crimes.","path":["Title 13A Criminal Code.","Chapter 10 Offenses Against Public Administration.","Article 1 Obstruction of Public Administration."],"source_url":"https://alison.legislature.state.al.us/code-of-alabama?section=13A-10-11","current_through":"Act 2026-611","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T14:01:52Z","sha256":"a4d3cc9ae8287fb6e56b6aa69a7b2f9e05e29117c377dd6c30d4c9cae69c1e97","source_id":"us-al","stale":false,"prev":"us-al/ala.-code-13a-10-10","next":"us-al/ala.-code-13a-10-12"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
