Code § 16-68-6","heading":"Regulation of Unprotected Speech, Expression, Etc.","body":"Nothing in this chapter shall be construed to prevent public institutions of higher education from regulating and restricting speech, expression, or a protected expressive activity that is not protected by the United States Constitution or the Constitution of Alabama of 1901, including, but not limited to, any of the following:\n(1) Violations of state or federal law, including, but not limited to, actions that damage institutional property.\n(2) Expressions that a court has deemed unprotected defamation.\n(3) Harassment.\n(4) True threats, which are defined as statements meant by the speaker to communicate a serious expression of an intent to commit an act of unlawful violence to a particular individual or group of individuals.\n(5) An unjustifiable invasion of privacy or confidentiality not involving a matter of public concern.\n(6) An action that unlawfully disrupts the function or security of the institution.","path":["Title 16 Education.","Chapter 68 Free Speech Rights for Students, Faculty, and Staff."],"source_url":"https://alison.legislature.state.al.us/code-of-alabama?section=16-68-6","current_through":"Act 2026-611","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T14:01:53Z","sha256":"3e8ed94e7df9fcc825df63f268d1a616068168ae7e2932a57da36fca56d6377a","source_id":"us-al","stale":false,"prev":"us-al/ala.-code-16-68-5","next":"us-al/ala.-code-16-68-7"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
