Code § 25-1-52","heading":"Requirements; Implementation.","body":"(a) A private employer may have a voluntary veterans’ preference employment policy which shall:\n(1) Be in writing.\n(2) Be applied uniformly to employment decisions regarding hiring, promotion, or retention during a reduction in force.\n(b) An employer may require that a veteran submit a DD 214 to a private employer with a veterans’ preference employment policy to be eligible for the preference.\n(c) The granting of the preference may not be construed to be a violation of any local or state equal employment opportunity law.\n(d) The Alabama Department of Veterans’ Affairs and the Alabama Department of Labor shall assist a private employer in determining if an applicant is a veteran to the extent permitted by law and in a manner that protects personal privacy consistent with the law.","path":["Title 25 Industrial Relations and Labor.","Chapter 1 General Provisions.","Article 5 Voluntary Veterans’ Preference Employment Policy Act."],"source_url":"https://alison.legislature.state.al.us/code-of-alabama?section=25-1-52","current_through":"Act 2026-611","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T14:01:53Z","sha256":"8a2ab061fd3c791862647dd4f9e2ecb266c07953fa52c00c6bba3851712d7c2a","source_id":"us-al","stale":false,"prev":"us-al/ala.-code-25-1-51","next":"us-al/ala.-code-25-1-60"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
