Code § 26-17-302","heading":"Execution of Acknowledgment of Paternity.","body":"(a) An acknowledgment of paternity must:\n(1) be in a record filed with the Alabama Office of Vital Statistics;\n(2) be signed, and notarized, under penalty of perjury by the mother and by the man seeking to establish his paternity;\n(3) state that the child whose paternity is being acknowledged:\n(A) does not have a presumed father or the man executing the acknowledgment is the presumed father; and\n(B) does not have another acknowledged or adjudicated father;\n(4) state whether there has been genetic testing and, if so, that the acknowledging man’s claim of paternity is consistent with the results of the testing; and\n(5) state that the signatories understand that the acknowledgment shall be considered a legal finding of paternity of the child and that a challenge to the acknowledgment is permitted only as provided in this chapter.\n(b) A presumed father may sign an acknowledgment of paternity which must be notarized.","path":["Title 26 Infants and Incompetents.","Chapter 17 Alabama Uniform Parentage Act.","Article 3 Voluntary Acknowledgment of Paternity."],"source_url":"https://alison.legislature.state.al.us/code-of-alabama?section=26-17-302","current_through":"Act 2026-611","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T14:01:53Z","sha256":"f54561af628908fd6eb00d0ea984bf05203a71225e976d7284fefdab6d993d07","source_id":"us-al","stale":false,"prev":"us-al/ala.-code-26-17-301","next":"us-al/ala.-code-26-17-303"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
