Code § 26-17-508","heading":"Genetic Testing When Specimens Not Available.","body":"(a) Subject to subsection (b), if a genetic-testing specimen is not available from an individual who may be the mother or the father of a child, for good cause and under circumstances the court considers to be just, the court may order the following individuals to submit specimens for genetic testing:\n(1) the parents of the individual;\n(2) brothers and sisters of the individual;\n(3) other children of the individual and their other parent; and\n(4) other relatives of the individual necessary to complete genetic testing.\n(b) Issuance of an order under this section requires a finding that a need for genetic testing outweighs the legitimate interests of the person sought to be tested.","path":["Title 26 Infants and Incompetents.","Chapter 17 Alabama Uniform Parentage Act.","Article 5 Genetic Testing."],"source_url":"https://alison.legislature.state.al.us/code-of-alabama?section=26-17-508","current_through":"Act 2026-611","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T14:01:53Z","sha256":"f156e81e94a5199071a4c13f247ed8bc8926e367ad55d1757400bad5c424bcd3","source_id":"us-al","stale":false,"prev":"us-al/ala.-code-26-17-507","next":"us-al/ala.-code-26-17-509"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
