Code § 30-3D-204","heading":"Simultaneous Proceedings.","body":"(a) A tribunal of this state may exercise jurisdiction to establish a support order if the petition or comparable pleading is filed after a pleading is filed in another state or a foreign country only if:\n(1) the petition or comparable pleading in this state is filed before the expiration of the time allowed in the other state or the foreign country for filing a responsive pleading challenging the exercise of jurisdiction by the other state or the foreign country;\n(2) the contesting party timely challenges the exercise of jurisdiction in the other state or the foreign country; and\n(3) if relevant, this state is the home state of the child.\n(b) A tribunal of this state may not exercise jurisdiction to establish a support order if the petition or comparable pleading is filed before a petition or comparable pleading is filed in another state or a foreign country if:\n(1) the petition or comparable pleading in the other state or foreign country is filed before the expiration of the time allowed in this state for filing a responsive pleading challenging the exercise of jurisdiction by this state;\n(2) the contesting party timely challenges the exercise of jurisdiction in this state; and\n(3) if relevant, the other state or foreign country is the home state of the child.","path":["Title 30 Marital and Domestic Relations.","Chapter 3D Uniform Interstate Family Support Act.","Article 2 Jurisdiction."],"source_url":"https://alison.legislature.state.al.us/code-of-alabama?section=30-3D-204","current_through":"Act 2026-611","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T14:01:53Z","sha256":"a683324e30b50625c9abbf777f7efbd333b8b57022db1b6c6ed03e5a11873702","source_id":"us-al","stale":false,"prev":"us-al/ala.-code-30-3d-203","next":"us-al/ala.-code-30-3d-205"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
