Code § 31-13-13.1","heading":"Human Smuggling.","body":"(a) A person commits the crime of human smuggling if he or she knowingly transports into this state another individual who he or she knows is an illegal alien.\n(b) Human smuggling is a Class C felony.\n(c) It shall not be a violation of this section for an attorney to transport a client to or from a federal immigration facility or other federal, state, or local government facility.\n(d) It shall not be a violation of this section to do any of the following:\n(1) For any educator or other employee of an educational entity to transport a student as part of an official educational excursion.\n(2) For any health care provider to transport or treat a patient.\n(3) For any person to transport an individual for noncommercial religious or charitable purposes.\n(4) For any person to transport an individual to or from a location for governmental purposes.","path":["Title 31 Military Affairs and Civil Defense.","Chapter 13 Illegal Immigration."],"source_url":"https://alison.legislature.state.al.us/code-of-alabama?section=31-13-13.1","current_through":"Act 2026-611","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T14:01:54Z","sha256":"d6a2bf97b6eaef86c188ff7000c9b6655bb064ab146abff943e4d7436550c965","source_id":"us-al","stale":false,"prev":"us-al/ala.-code-31-13-13","next":"us-al/ala.-code-31-13-14"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
