Code § 33-5B-6","heading":"Certificate of Title Required.","body":"(a) Except as otherwise provided in subsections (b) and (c), the owner of a vessel for which this state is the state of principal use shall deliver to the office an application for a certificate of title for the vessel, with the applicable fee, not later than 20 days after the later of:\n(1) the date of a transfer of ownership; or\n(2) the date this state becomes the state of principal use.\n(b) An application for a certificate of title is not required for:\n(1) a documented vessel;\n(2) a foreign-documented vessel;\n(3) a barge;\n(4) a vessel before delivery if the vessel is under construction or completed pursuant to contract; or\n(5) a vessel held by a dealer for sale or lease, even if the vessel is used for demonstration purposes or loaned out for use by the dealer.\n(c) The office may not issue, transfer, or renew a certificate of number for a vessel issued pursuant to the requirements of 46 U.S.C. § 12301, as amended, unless the office has created a certificate of title for the vessel or an application for a certificate of title for the vessel and the applicable fee has been delivered to the office.","path":["Title 33 Navigation and Watercourses.","Chapter 5B Uniform Certificate of Title for Vessels Act."],"source_url":"https://alison.legislature.state.al.us/code-of-alabama?section=33-5B-6","current_through":"Act 2026-611","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T14:01:54Z","sha256":"e8b1fe4cc475c1b4a1e5e2ca7a6edb9916df399a33645e6e6d24f7d73db24133","source_id":"us-al","stale":false,"prev":"us-al/ala.-code-33-5b-5","next":"us-al/ala.-code-33-5b-7"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
