Code § 45-27-60.07","heading":"Autopsies or Postmortem Examinations.","body":"(a) In compliance with the provisions of Section 36-18-2, an autopsy or postmortem examination may be performed by a state medical examiner at the written direction of the Governor, the Attorney General, a circuit judge, or the Escambia County District Attorney or his or her authorized representative in any case in which the Attorney General or the district attorney is conducting a criminal investigation.\n(b) A state medical examiner may authorize an autopsy or postmortem examination, or the autopsy may be performed by a state medical examiner, when the county medical examiner suspects the death is obscure or, in his or her opinion, an autopsy is advisable and in the public interest.","path":["Title 45 Local Laws.","Chapter 27 Escambia County.","Article 6 Coroner."],"source_url":"https://alison.legislature.state.al.us/code-of-alabama?section=45-27-60.07","current_through":"Act 2026-611","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T14:01:53Z","sha256":"3a20972b43bf7ab83a730810ae34d4735c16ef2cf04873d0155a1cb071862cba","source_id":"us-al","stale":false,"prev":"us-al/ala.-code-45-27-60.06","next":"us-al/ala.-code-45-27-60.08"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
