Code § 45-40-142.03","heading":"Fire District Boundaries; Cooperation Agreement with Unincorporated Areas.","body":"(a) The geographical boundaries of a fire district shall be the existing service area of the volunteer fire department as defined by the Lawrence County E-911 District on October 1, 2025.\n(b) In any case in which an unincorporated area is within the service area of a municipality on October 1, 2025, the fire district and the municipality may enter into a cooperation agreement to determine whether all or a part of the unincorporated area will be under the fire protection of the fire district or the municipality.\n(c) A municipality that provides fire protection within its corporate limits as of October 1, 2025, shall not be included in a fire district unless the governing body of the municipality adopts a resolution requesting that all or a part of its service area be added to a fire district and the request is approved by both: (i) the county commission; and (ii) the fire district.","path":["Title 45 Local Laws.","Chapter 40 Lawrence County.","Article 14 Fire Protection and Emergency Medical Services.","Part 3 Fire Districts."],"source_url":"https://alison.legislature.state.al.us/code-of-alabama?section=45-40-142.03","current_through":"Act 2026-611","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T14:01:54Z","sha256":"e5fa85a5840995df6e8cbd5c5eaacd7288a8624f915cad0e5fb8a257582340ef","source_id":"us-al","stale":false,"prev":"us-al/ala.-code-45-40-142.02","next":"us-al/ala.-code-45-40-142.04"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
