Code § 45-58-234.20","heading":"Collection and Disposition of Fee.","body":"(a) In addition to all existing charges, fees, judgments, and costs of court, the clerk, sheriff, or other appropriate court official in the civil division of the District and Circuit Courts of Shelby County, a civil service of process fee of fifty dollars ($50) per document is imposed for each document requiring personal service by the sheriff’s office. For purposes of this section, the term ‘‘document’’ shall include multiple papers served on a party or entity at one time.\n(b) The Shelby County Sheriff’s Civil Service of Process Fund is created.\n(c) The court official designated in Shelby County by law for the respective courts shall collect the service of process fee designated in subsection (a) and shall distribute the fees to the sheriff for deposit in the sheriff’s civil service of process fund.\n(d) The Sheriff of Shelby County may contract with or enter into a contract or agreement with a private, public, or governmental entity for the purpose of service of process.\n(e) The sheriff may use the monies distributed to the sheriff’s civil service of process fund for law enforcement purposes in Shelby County, as the sheriff sees fit, including contracting with or entering into a contract or agreement with a private, public, or governmental entity for service of process of documents from the civil division of the district or circuit court.\n(f) Any funds deposited in the sheriff’s civil service of process fund shall not revert to the general fund of the county at the end of the fiscal year.","path":["Title 45 Local Laws.","Chapter 58 Shelby County.","Article 23 Sheriff.","Part 5 Funding of Office.","Subpart 2 Service of Process Fee."],"source_url":"https://alison.legislature.state.al.us/code-of-alabama?section=45-58-234.20","current_through":"Act 2026-611","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T14:01:54Z","sha256":"7ed7a9e418be2c6062226c43698a6527c39e40a7f3cfbd7a6bc8a3f9ba58dbb6","source_id":"us-al","stale":false,"prev":"us-al/ala.-code-45-58-234","next":"us-al/ala.-code-45-58-240"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
