Code § 5-22-6","heading":"Criminal Penalties.","body":"(a) Except as provided in subsection (b) of this section, a person who willfully violates any provision of Section 5-22-3 shall in addition to other penalties provided by law, be guilty of a misdemeanor and, upon conviction thereof, shall be punished by a fine of not more than $500.00 or by imprisonment for not more than 12 months or both.\n(b) A person who willfully violates any provision of Section 5-22-3, when the violation is:\n(1) Committed in furtherance of the commission of any other violation of Alabama law; or\n(2) Committed as part of a pattern of illegal activity involving transactions exceeding $100,000.00 in any 12-month period,\nshall, in addition to other penalties provided by law, be guilty of a felony and, upon conviction thereof, shall be punished by a fine of not more than $500,000.00 or by imprisonment for not more than five years, or both.","path":["Title 5 Banks and Financial Institutions.","Chapter 22 Reports of Transactions Involving Currency."],"source_url":"https://alison.legislature.state.al.us/code-of-alabama?section=5-22-6","current_through":"Act 2026-611","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T14:01:52Z","sha256":"8463ec3d7f86e8a8651a46e4459695708fa7c7e193d43e99a330321887065e6d","source_id":"us-al","stale":false,"prev":"us-al/ala.-code-5-22-5","next":"us-al/ala.-code-5-22-7"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
