Code Ann. § 6-63-601","heading":"Definitions","body":"As used in this subchapter, unless the context otherwise requires:\n\n(1) \"Catastrophic illness\" means a medical condition, as certified by a physician, of an employee or of the spouse or parent of the employee or of a child of the employee who may be claimed as a dependent under the Income Tax Act of 1929, § 26-51-101 et seq., which requires an employee's absence from duty for a prolonged period of time and which, except for the catastrophic leave program, would result in a substantial loss of income to the employee because of the exhaustion of all earned sick and annual leave;\n\n(2) \"Catastrophic leave\" means leave granted to an employee as a result of a catastrophic illness, upon the employee's exhausting of all sick and annual leave;\n\n(3) \"Catastrophic leave bank\" means a pool of accrued annual leave donated by employees; and\n\n(4) \"Employees\" means nonfaculty nonclassified personnel employed by a state institution of higher education.","path":["AR Code","Title 6","Chapter 63","Subchapter 6"],"source_url":"https://oss-data-us.vaquill.ai/v2026.08/us_ar_statutes.parquet","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:41Z","sha256":"3e405807a635581e98366d83616636dfd9daf1c620ceab918df5bd99b2e053cc","source_id":"us-ar","stale":false,"prev":"us-ar/ark.-code-ann.-6-63-502","next":"us-ar/ark.-code-ann.-6-63-602"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
