A pharmacist who is licensed pursuant to this chapter and who meets the requirements of this section may prescribe and administer oral fluoride varnish.\n\nB. A pharmacist who wishes to administer oral fluoride varnish pursuant to this section shall successfully complete a course of training accredited by the accreditation council for pharmacy education on the use of a caries risk assessment and oral fluoride varnish application, or other board-approved training that complies with American dental association guidelines.\n\nC. A pharmacist who administers oral fluoride varnish pursuant to this section shall do all of the following:\n\n1. Perform a caries risk assessment with each patient and make any necessary referrals to a dentist or physician for moderate or high-risk patients within five business days.\n\n2. Provide each patient with a fluoride record card to be shared with other providers to track fluoride treatments.\n\n3. Inform each patient that fluoride varnish is not sufficient dental care and encourage each patient to see a dentist on a regular basis.\n\n4. Make and keep records for at least one year following the administration of oral fluoride varnish.\n\nD. A pharmacist may not give or receive, either directly or indirectly, a payment, kickback, rebate, bonus or other remuneration for a referral to a dentist or physician pursuant to subsection C of this section.","path":["Title 32 Professions and Occupations"],"source_url":"https://www.azleg.gov/ars/32/01979-02.htm","current_through":"2026-09-04","vintage":"2026-08-09","retrieved_at":"2026-09-04T00:49:56Z","sha256":"3c9f176ba4512c2a3c641d9270f2c581bcc9c1a621a0cc48d1e24993c7b56687","source_id":"us-az","stale":true,"prev":"us-az/a.r.s.-32-1979.01","next":"us-az/a.r.s.-32-1979.03"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
