{"data":{"id":"us-co/c.r.s.-12-225-103","jurisdiction":"us-co","citation":"C.R.S. § 12-225-103","heading":"Definitions.","body":"As used in this article 225, unless the context otherwise requires:\n\n(1) \"Birth center\" means a freestanding facility licensed by the department of public health and environment that:\n\n(a) Is not a hospital, attached to a hospital, or located in a hospital;\n\n(b) Provides prenatal, labor, delivery, and postpartum care to low-risk pregnant persons and newborns; and\n\n(c) Provides care during delivery and immediately after delivery that is generally less than twenty-four hours in duration.\n\n(1.5) \"Client\" means a pregnant woman for whom a direct-entry midwife performs services. For purposes of perinatal or postpartum care, \"client\" includes the woman's newborn.\n\n(2) \"Direct-entry midwife\" means a person who practices direct-entry midwifery.\n\n(3) \"Direct-entry midwifery\" or \"practice of direct-entry midwifery\" means the advising, attending, or assisting of a woman during pregnancy, labor and natural childbirth at home or at a birth center, and the postpartum period in accordance with this article 225.\n\n(4) \"Natural childbirth\" means the birth of a child without the use of instruments, surgical procedures, or prescription drugs other than those for which the direct-entry midwife has specific authority under this article 225 to obtain and administer.\n\n(5) \"Perinatal\" means the period from the twenty-eighth week of pregnancy through seven days after birth.\n\n(6) \"Postpartum period\" means the period of six weeks after birth.","path":["Title 12 - PROFESSIONS AND OCCUPATIONS","Article 225 - Direct-entry Midwives"],"source_url":"https://olls.info/crs/crs2026-title-12.htm","current_through":"Colorado Revised Statutes 2026","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:37:45Z","sha256":"3c4f5337e48d1f95b61ba40f61c132e1b5060ff63b73e592bf51c2b0117078dd","source_id":"us-co","stale":false,"prev":"us-co/c.r.s.-12-225-102","next":"us-co/c.r.s.-12-225-104"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
