{"data":{"id":"us-co/c.r.s.-18-12-402","jurisdiction":"us-co","citation":"C.R.S. § 18-12-402","heading":"Retail dealers - record - inspection.","body":"(1) Every dealer engaged, within this state, in retail transactions, including the sale, rental, exchange, or transfer, of firearms other than destructive devices shall keep a record of each firearm transaction conducted by the dealer, other than transactions solely involving destructive devices. The record must be made at the time of the transaction in a book or electronic record kept for that purpose.\n\n(2) The record required in this section must include:\n\n(a) The name of the person that received the firearm and the recipient's age and address;\n\n(b) The make, caliber, and finish of the firearm;\n\n(c) The firearm's number and serial letter, if any;\n\n(d) The date of the transaction; and\n\n(e) The name of the employee or other person that conducted the transaction.\n\n(3) The dealer shall make the records described in this section available at all times for inspection by a duly authorized peace officer.\n\n(4) The department and any other state agency shall not use the information obtained from dealer records to create or maintain a registry identifying firearm ownership.","path":["Title 18 - CRIMINAL CODE","Article 12 - Offenses Relating to Firearms and Weapons","Part 4 - FIREARMS - DEALERS"],"source_url":"https://olls.info/crs/crs2026-title-18.htm","current_through":"Colorado Revised Statutes 2026","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:37:45Z","sha256":"3bfdf57668c8e5c22c349b54ecca31d0ab41e5f9d1cc9dd2e9dd729d737687c1","source_id":"us-co","stale":false,"prev":"us-co/c.r.s.-18-12-401.5","next":"us-co/c.r.s.-18-12-403"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
