{"data":{"id":"us-co/c.r.s.-18-5-112","jurisdiction":"us-co","citation":"C.R.S. § 18-5-112","heading":"Obtaining signature by deception.","body":"(1) A person commits obtaining signature by deception if, by deception and with intent to defraud or to acquire a benefit for himself or another, he causes another to sign or execute a written instrument.\n\n(2) As used in this section, \"by deception\" means by knowingly:\n\n(a) Creating or confirming another's impression which is false and which the deceiver does not believe to be true; or\n\n(b) Failing to correct a false impression held by another which the deceiver previously has created or confirmed; or\n\n(c) Preventing another from acquiring information pertinent to any matter material to a proper understanding of any transaction in which the signature of such person is procured.\n\n(3) Obtaining signatures by deception is a class 2 misdemeanor.","path":["Title 18 - CRIMINAL CODE","Article 5 - Offenses Involving Fraud","Part 1 - FORGERY, SIMULATION, IMPERSONATION, AND RELATED OFFENSES"],"source_url":"https://olls.info/crs/crs2026-title-18.htm","current_through":"Colorado Revised Statutes 2026","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:37:45Z","sha256":"f9b6508cddcc66a7167e91023a1c41e68f5dd01802a7103c35a44c01f75cb99a","source_id":"us-co","stale":false,"prev":"us-co/c.r.s.-18-5-111","next":"us-co/c.r.s.-18-5-113"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
