{"data":{"id":"us-co/c.r.s.-18-5-903.5","jurisdiction":"us-co","citation":"C.R.S. § 18-5-903.5","heading":"Criminal possession of an identification document - bias-motivated crime enforcement - civil actions.","body":"(1) A person commits criminal possession of an identification document if the person knowingly confiscates or possesses or controls another person's actual driver's license, actual government-issued identification card, actual social security card, or actual passport without permission or lawful authority.\n\n(2) (a) Except as described in section 18-9-121, criminal possession of one or more identification documents issued to the same individual is a class 2 misdemeanor.\n\n(b) Criminal possession of two or more identification documents, of which at least two are issued to different persons, is a class 6 felony.\n\n(3) An individual who is harmed by a person's commission of the offense described in this section may:\n\n(a) Request that the court order the person to return the identification document immediately; and\n\n(b) Bring a civil action to recover any damages caused by the person's commission of the offense.","path":["Title 18 - CRIMINAL CODE","Article 5 - Offenses Involving Fraud","Part 9 - IDENTITY THEFT AND RELATED OFFENSES"],"source_url":"https://olls.info/crs/crs2026-title-18.htm","current_through":"Colorado Revised Statutes 2026","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:37:45Z","sha256":"0648c58481fd823ba1dc1ea145cd74285c0413536ccd8c0be9e41710ec5ace83","source_id":"us-co","stale":false,"prev":"us-co/c.r.s.-18-5-903","next":"us-co/c.r.s.-18-5-904"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
