{"data":{"id":"us-co/c.r.s.-18-8-305","jurisdiction":"us-co","citation":"C.R.S. § 18-8-305","heading":"Trading in public office.","body":"(1) A person commits trading in public office if:\n\n(a) He offers, confers, or agrees to confer any pecuniary benefit upon a public servant or party officer upon an agreement or understanding that he or a particular person will or may be appointed to a public office or designated or nominated as a candidate for public office; or\n\n(b) While a public servant or party officer, he solicits, accepts, or agrees to accept any pecuniary benefit from another upon an agreement or understanding that a particular person will or may be appointed to a public office or designated or nominated as a candidate for public office.\n\n(2) It shall be an affirmative defense that the pecuniary benefit was a customary contribution to political campaign funds solicited and received by lawfully constituted political parties.\n\n(3) Trading in public office is a class 1 misdemeanor.","path":["Title 18 - CRIMINAL CODE","Article 8 - Offenses - Governmental Operations","Part 3 - BRIBERY AND CORRUPT INFLUENCES"],"source_url":"https://olls.info/crs/crs2026-title-18.htm","current_through":"Colorado Revised Statutes 2026","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:37:45Z","sha256":"7529eb3036bf51429e58b8a130b33fd0389fe51f586784adf5d366c34a66db2a","source_id":"us-co","stale":false,"prev":"us-co/c.r.s.-18-8-304","next":"us-co/c.r.s.-18-8-306"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
