{"data":{"id":"us-co/c.r.s.-22-1-140","jurisdiction":"us-co","citation":"C.R.S. § 22-1-140","heading":"Corporal punishment prohibited - definition.","body":"(1) A person employed by or volunteering in a public school, as defined in section 22-1-101, shall not impose corporal punishment on a child.\n\n(2) (a) As used in this section, unless the context otherwise requires, \"corporal punishment\" means the willful infliction of, or willfully causing the infliction of, physical pain on a child.\n\n(b) \"Corporal punishment\" does not include:\n\n(I) An amount of force that is reasonable and necessary to quell a disturbance that threatens physical injury to persons or damage to property, necessary for purposes of self-defense, or used to obtain possession of a weapon or other dangerous object within the control of a child; or\n\n(II) Physical pain or discomfort caused by athletic competition or other similar physical activity in which a child is voluntarily engaged.","path":["Title 22 - EDUCATION","Article 1 - General Provisions"],"source_url":"https://olls.info/crs/crs2026-title-22.htm","current_through":"Colorado Revised Statutes 2026","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:37:45Z","sha256":"d2c2c290080d1c8955b20e588f04c033f987bdbdec5189f791a7fe7a81d2e4c6","source_id":"us-co","stale":false,"prev":"us-co/c.r.s.-22-1-139","next":"us-co/c.r.s.-22-1-141"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
