{"data":{"id":"us-co/c.r.s.-35-82-101","jurisdiction":"us-co","citation":"C.R.S. § 35-82-101","heading":"Definitions.","body":"As used in this article 82, unless the context otherwise requires:\n\n(1) \"Animal\" means a live vertebrate, nonhuman animal.\n\n(2) \"Animal shelter\" has the meaning set forth in section 35-80-102 (1).\n\n(3) \"Cat\" means a small, domesticated, carnivorous mammal that is a member of the family Felidae, order Carnivora.\n\n(4) \"Chemical substance\" means any organic or inorganic substance, including:\n\n(a) A drug, as defined in 21 U.S.C. sec. 321 (g)(1);\n\n(b) A pesticide, as defined in 7 U.S.C. sec. 136 (u);\n\n(c) A chemical substance, as defined in 15 U.S.C. sec. 2602 (2); and\n\n(d) A food additive, as defined in 21 U.S.C. sec. 321 (s).\n\n(5) \"Department\" means the department of agriculture created in section 35-1-103.\n\n(6) \"Dog\" means any member of the species Canis familiaris.\n\n(7) \"Health-related research\" means research:\n\n(a) Related to the causes, progression, diagnosis, treatment, control, or prevention of physical or mental diseases and impairments or chronic conditions of humans or animals;\n\n(b) Related to the development of biomedical products or devices, as defined in 21 U.S.C. sec. 321 (h); or\n\n(c) To test the health effects of chemical substances, ingredients, medical devices, vaccines, products, or product formulations.\n\n(8) (a) \"Health-related research facility\" means an entity that uses animals for health-related research.\n\n(b) \"Health-related research facility\" does not include an entity that only provides a beneficial service to an animal, such as spaying or neutering.\n\n(9) \"Pet animal rescue\" has the meaning set forth in section 35-80-102 (11.2).","path":["Title 35 - AGRICULTURE","Article 82 - Animals in Health-related Research Facilities"],"source_url":"https://olls.info/crs/crs2026-title-35.htm","current_through":"Colorado Revised Statutes 2026","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:37:45Z","sha256":"480a653e116d50576d45e89bef92ffa94d78b1568d3b7b66cafb6174dac18f57","source_id":"us-co","stale":false,"prev":"us-co/c.r.s.-35-81-102","next":"us-co/c.r.s.-35-82-102"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
