Code § 1-623.34","heading":"Funeral expenses; transportation of body.","body":"(a)\nIf death results from an injury sustained in the performance of duty, the District of Columbia government shall pay, to the personal representative of the deceased or otherwise, funeral and burial expenses not to exceed $5,000, at the discretion of the Mayor.\n\n(b)\nThe body of an employee whose home was in the United States, at the discretion of the Mayor, may be embalmed and transported in a hermetically sealed casket to his or her home or last place of residence at the expense of the Employees’ Compensation Fund if:\n(1)\nThe employee dies from:\n(A)\nThe injury while away from his or her home or official station or outside the United States; or\n(B)\nOther causes while away from his or her home or official station for the purposes of receiving medical or other services, appliances, supplies, or examination under this subchapter; and\n(2)\nThe relatives of the employee request the return of the body.","path":["Title 1.
