Code § 3-1206.51","heading":"Scope of practice.","body":"(a)\nAn individual shall be licensed by the Board of Medicine before practicing as a trauma technologist in the District of Columbia.\n\n(b)\nAn individual licensed to practice as a trauma technologist shall have the authority to:\n(1)\nIdentify respiratory emergencies and perform critical interventions with oxygen therapy equipment, including bag valve masks;\n(2)\nIdentify circulatory emergencies and perform critical interventions, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation;\n(3)\nIdentify, assess, and treat, as required, various eye injuries, soft tissue injuries, ligament and tendon injuries, musculoskeletal injuries, environmental emergencies, and exposure and reactions to poisons;\n(4)\nProvide topical and infiltration application of a local anesthetic,\n(5)\nApply tourniquets, casts, immobilizers, and surgical dressings;\n(6)\nPerform phlebotomy and insert intravenous catheters; and\n(7)\nSuture lacerations and provide wound care.\n\n(c)\nA trauma technologist shall not:\n(1)\nPerform any surgical procedure independently;\n(2)\nHave prescriptive authority; or\n(3)\nWrite any progress notes or orders on hospitalized patients.\n\n(d)\nTelecommunication by a physician licensed to practice in the District of Columbia may suffice as a means for directing delegated acts for a trauma technologist who is under the indirect supervision of that physician.","path":["Title 3.
