Code § 38-1802.14a","heading":"Charter schools admissions task force.","body":"(a)\nThere is established a task force that shall study providing a neighborhood preference in charter school admissions for the 2013-2014 school year. The task force shall consist of:\n(1)\nThe following 5 government officials, or their designees:\n(A)\nChairman of the Public Charter School Board;\n(B)\nChairman of the Council of the District of Columbia;\n(C)\nState Superintendent of Education;\n(D)\nDeputy Mayor for Education; and\n(E)\nChancellor of the District of Columbia Public Schools; and\n(2)\nThe following nongovernment members:\n(A)\nTwo representatives from charter support organizations;\n(B)\nA representative from the education department of a national research organization;\n(C)\nA representative from a national charter school organization;\n(D)\nTwo charter school leaders selected by the Public Charter School Board Chair; and\n(E)\nA labor representative.\n\n(b)\nThe task force shall:\n(1)\nBe chaired by the Chairman of the Public Charter School Board, or his or her designee;\n(2)\nMeet at an agreed to location as often as determined necessary by the Chairman of the task force;\n(3)\nExplore the feasibility of offering a neighborhood preference in charter school admissions for the 2013-2014 school year; and\n(4)\nBy September 1, 2012, submit a report to the Council of its findings, which shall include:\n(A)\nConsideration of the various ways in which a neighborhood preference can be designed, including:\n(i)\nThe pros and cons of a weighted lottery;\n(ii)\nSetting aside of a certain percentage of new seats;\n(iii)\nA geographically limited preference; and\n(iv)\nA preference based on rankings in a city-wide application process;\n(B)\nA definition of neighborhood for the purpose of setting boundaries in admissions;\n(C)\nAn examination of models that are being used in other jurisdictions and evaluation of their applicability to the District; and\n(D)\nRecommendations based on its findings.","path":["Title 38.
