Code § 38-827.01","heading":"Establishment of the Healthy Youth and Schools Commission.","body":"(a)\nThere is established the Healthy Youth and Schools Commission with the purpose of advising the Mayor and the Council on health, wellness, and nutritional issues concerning youth and schools in the District, including:\n(1)\nSchool meals;\n(2)\nFarm-to-school programs;\n(3)\nPhysical activity and physical education;\n(4)\nHealth education;\n(5)\nEnvironmental programs;\n(6)\nSchool gardens;\n(7)\nSexual health programming;\n(8)\nChronic disease prevention;\n(9)\nEmotional, social, and mental health services;\n(10)\nSubstance abuse; and\n(11)\nViolence prevention.\n\n(b)\nSpecific functions of the Commission shall include the following:\n(1)\nAdvising on the operations of all District health, wellness, and nutrition programs;\n(2)\nReviewing and advising on the best practices in health, wellness, and nutrition programs across the United States;\n(3)\nRecommending standards, or revisions to existing standards, concerning the health, wellness, and nutrition of youth and schools in the District;\n(4)\nAdvising on the development of an ongoing program of public information and outreach programs on health, wellness, and nutrition;\n(5)\nMaking recommendations on enhancing the collaborative relationship between the District government, the federal government, the University of the District of Columbia, local nonprofit organizations, colleges and universities, and the private sector in connection with health, wellness, and nutrition;\n(6)\nIdentifying gaps in funding and services, or methods of expanding services to District residents;\n(7)\nEngaging students in improving health, wellness, and nutrition in schools; and\n(8)\nParticipating in the selection process for any grants provided under the Healthy Schools Fund established pursuant to § 38-821.02.\n\n(c)\nOn or before November 30 of each year, the Commission shall submit to the Mayor and the Council a comprehensive report on the health, wellness, and nutrition of youth and schools in the District. The report shall:\n(1)\nExplain the efforts made within the preceding year to improve the health, wellness, and nutrition of youth and schools in the District;\n(2)\nDiscuss the steps that other states have taken to address the health, wellness, and nutrition of youth and schools; and\n(3)\nMake recommendations about how to further improve the health, wellness, and nutrition of youth and schools in the District.","path":["Title 38.
