Code § 9-204.01","heading":"Scope of Council’s authority.","body":"(a)\nAny proposed designation or change of the name of any public space or commemorative work on public space in the District of Columbia shall require approval by the Mayor and the Council as follows:\n(1)\nThe Mayor may submit a resolution to the Council proposing a designation, change of name, or commemorative work for the Council’s approval.\n(2)\nA Council member may introduce an act proposing a designation, change of name, or commemorative work.\n(3)\nIn accordance with paragraph (4) of this subsection, the Council may approve legislation submitted pursuant to paragraphs (1) or (2) of this subsection following a public hearing held by the Council and in accordance with the criteria set forth in this subchapter.\n(4)\nFor commemorative works, the criteria set forth in part B of this subchapter shall be met prior to Council approval.\n(5)\nFor an alley or street, or portion thereof, or other public space, the criteria set forth in part C of this subchapter shall be met before Council approval.\n(6)\nAny designation or change of name of an alley or street, or portion thereof, or other public space made before October 8, 2016, shall not be affected by any of the D.C. Law 21-161 requirements.\n(7)\nThis title shall not apply to:\n(A)\nAny street, alley, other public space, or commemorative work not under the jurisdiction of the District of Columbia; or\n(B)\nAny ancillary interior space of a District of Columbia Public Schools building, such as an auditorium or library.","path":["Title 9.
