Stat. § 1008.02","heading":"Definitions.","body":"As used in this chapter, the term:\n(1) “Developmental education” means instruction through which a high school graduate who applies for any college credit program may attain the communication and computation skills necessary to successfully complete college credit instruction. Developmental education may be delivered through a variety of accelerated and corequisite strategies and includes any of the following:\n(a) Modularized instruction that is customized and targeted to address specific skills gaps.\n(b) Compressed course structures that accelerate student progression from developmental instruction to college-level coursework.\n(c) Contextualized developmental instruction that is related to meta-majors.\n(d) Corequisite developmental instruction or tutoring that supplements credit instruction while a student is concurrently enrolled in a credit-bearing course.\n(2) “Gateway course” means the first course that provides transferable, college-level credit allowing a student to progress in his or her program of study.\n(3) “Meta-major” means a collection of programs of study or academic discipline groupings that share common foundational skills.\nHistory.—s. 18, ch. 2013-51.","path":["CHAPTER 1008 ASSESSMENT AND ACCOUNTABILITY"],"source_url":"https://www.leg.state.fl.us/statutes/index.cfm?App_mode=Display_Statute\u0026URL=1000-1099/1008/1008.html","current_through":"2026 Florida Statutes","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-08-27T02:17:35Z","sha256":"017eccfd97c73aa587c295dbcf2d809f006f4eee2964ad539da9ec2b41064cc1","source_id":"us-fl","stale":false,"prev":"us-fl/fla.-stat.-1007.55","next":"us-fl/fla.-stat.-1008.212"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
