Stat. § 287.083","heading":"Purchase of commodities.","body":"(1) It shall be the policy of the state for the Department of Management Services to consider the life-cycle cost of commodities purchased by the state, when applicable and feasible as determined by the department.\n(2) For the purpose of this section:\n(a) “Major energy-consuming product” means any article so designated by the department.\n(b) “Energy-efficiency standard” means a performance standard which prescribes the relationship of the energy use of a product to its useful output of services.\n(3)(a) The department is authorized to establish by rule energy-efficiency standards for major energy-consuming products.\n(b) When federal energy-efficiency standards exist, the department shall, when feasible, adopt standards at least as stringent as the federal standards.\n(4) When energy-efficiency standards are established, life-cycle costs shall be used by the department in contracting for major energy-consuming products.\n(5) In determining the life-cycle cost, the department may consider the acquisition cost of the product; the energy consumption and the projected cost of energy over the useful life of the product; and the anticipated trade-in, resale, or salvage value of the product.\nHistory.—s. 2, ch. 77-316; s. 25, ch. 81-169; s. 85, ch. 98-279.","path":["CHAPTER 287 PROCUREMENT OF PERSONAL PROPERTY AND SERVICES"],"source_url":"https://www.leg.state.fl.us/statutes/index.cfm?App_mode=Display_Statute\u0026URL=0200-0299/0287/0287.html","current_through":"2026 Florida Statutes","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-08-27T02:02:33Z","sha256":"9a2d08fab395ef09a6bd7a1af978210cf5a81647c05ee5eb47229d04c366a3f3","source_id":"us-fl","stale":false,"prev":"us-fl/fla.-stat.-287.0823","next":"us-fl/fla.-stat.-287.0831"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
