Stat. § 817.537","heading":"Fraudulent entry of a residential dwelling unit.","body":"(1) As used in this section, the terms “dwelling unit,” “landlord,” and “rental agreement” have the same meanings as provided in s. 83.43.\n(2) A person may not enter into and take possession of a residential dwelling unit by knowingly and willfully:\n(a) Making or causing to be made any materially false statement, in writing, relating to the person’s identity in any rental application for a residential tenancy.\n(b) Presenting forged, fictitious, or counterfeit documents to the landlord of a residential dwelling unit, including, but not limited to, a driver license, an identification card, a bank statement, or a paystub.\n(c) Impersonating another person in whose name a rental application is submitted to a landlord for the purpose of executing a rental agreement or taking possession of a residential dwelling unit.\n(3) A person who violates this section commits the offense of fraudulent entry of a residential dwelling unit, which is a felony of the third degree, punishable as provided in s. 775.082, s. 775.083, or s. 775.084.\nHistory.—s. 1, ch. 2026-143.","path":["CHAPTER 817 FRAUDULENT PRACTICES"],"source_url":"https://www.leg.state.fl.us/statutes/index.cfm?App_mode=Display_Statute\u0026URL=0800-0899/0817/0817.html","current_through":"2026 Florida Statutes","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-08-27T02:14:53Z","sha256":"b69eaaea170edc4e49e3bf9a751a59dd75693ee9a57b5fa0feda4eaacb560033","source_id":"us-fl","stale":false,"prev":"us-fl/fla.-stat.-817.535","next":"us-fl/fla.-stat.-817.54"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
