{"data":{"id":"us-ga/o.c.g.a.-10-6b-53","jurisdiction":"us-ga","citation":"O.C.G.A. § 10-6B-53","heading":"Benefits from governmental programs or civil or military service.","body":"(a) As used in this Code section, the term “benefits from governmental programs or civil or military service” means any benefit, program, or assistance provided under a law or regulation, including Social Security, medicare, and Medicaid.\n(b) Unless the power of attorney otherwise provides, language in a power of attorney granting general authority with respect to benefits from governmental programs or civil or military service shall authorize the agent to:\n(1) Execute vouchers in the name of the principal for allowances and reimbursements payable by the United States or a foreign government or by a state or political subdivision of a state to the principal, including allowances and reimbursements for transportation of the individuals described in paragraph (1) of subsection (a) of Code Section 10-6B-52, and for shipment of their household effects;\n(2) Take possession and order the removal and shipment of property of the principal from a post, warehouse, depot, dock, or other place of storage or safekeeping, either governmental or private, and execute and deliver a release, voucher, receipt, bill of lading, shipping ticket, certificate, or other instrument for such purpose;\n(3) Enroll in, apply for, select, reject, change, amend, or discontinue, on the principal’s behalf, a benefit or program;\n(4) Prepare, file, and maintain a claim of the principal for a benefit or assistance, financial or otherwise, to which such principal may be entitled under a law or regulation;\n(5) Initiate, participate in, submit to alternative dispute resolution, settle, oppose, or propose or accept a compromise with respect to litigation concerning any benefit or assistance the principal may be entitled to receive under a law or regulation; and\n(6) Receive the financial proceeds of a claim described in paragraph (4) of this subsection and conserve, invest, disburse, or use for a lawful purpose anything so received.","path":["TITLE 10 Commerce and Trade","CHAPTER 6B Georgia Power of Attorney","Article 2 Authority of Agent"],"source_url":"https://archive.org/download/gov.ga.ocga.2018/release86.2022.11/gov.ga.ocga.title.10.odt","current_through":"Release 86 (2022-11)","vintage":"Public.Resource.Org bulk O.C.G.A., Release 86 (2022-11), retrieved 2026-09-17","retrieved_at":"2026-09-17T19:34:57Z","sha256":"140c600f7b332abecdfa3e914d86d206b5919694a62931eaaeaeedce6cc3d241","source_id":"us-ga","stale":false,"prev":"us-ga/o.c.g.a.-10-6b-52","next":"us-ga/o.c.g.a.-10-6b-54"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
