{"data":{"id":"us-ga/o.c.g.a.-27-3-28","jurisdiction":"us-ga","citation":"O.C.G.A. § 27-3-28","heading":"Person may take possession of native wildlife which has been killed by a motor vehicle.","body":"(a) Except as otherwise provided in this Code section, any person may lawfully possess native wildlife which has been accidentally killed by a motor vehicle. The following exceptions and conditions to this general rule shall apply:\n(1) Any person taking possession of a bear accidentally killed by a motor vehicle shall notify the department or a law enforcement officer of the fact and location of the taking of possession and his or her name and address within 48 hours after taking possession of the bear; and\n(2) This Code section shall not authorize any person to take possession of any animal of a species designated as a protected species under Article 5 of this chapter or under federal law.\n(b) A law enforcement officer receiving a report of a person taking possession of a bear under paragraph (1) of subsection (a) of this Code section shall in turn transmit the reported information to the department within 48 hours after receipt of such information.","path":["TITLE 27 Game And Fish","CHAPTER 3 Wildlife Generally","Article 1 Hunting","PART 1 General Provisions"],"source_url":"https://archive.org/download/gov.ga.ocga.2018/release86.2022.11/gov.ga.ocga.title.27.odt","current_through":"Release 86 (2022-11)","vintage":"Public.Resource.Org bulk O.C.G.A., Release 86 (2022-11), retrieved 2026-09-17","retrieved_at":"2026-09-17T19:34:57Z","sha256":"ff3c28c58142824d320c52049ab54ddc39fbabba5a2794a2c85656da7852a0f1","source_id":"us-ga","stale":false,"prev":"us-ga/o.c.g.a.-27-3-27","next":"us-ga/o.c.g.a.-27-3-29"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
