{"data":{"id":"us-ga/o.c.g.a.-29-2-69","jurisdiction":"us-ga","citation":"O.C.G.A. § 29-2-69","heading":"Minor’s move to a foreign jurisdiction; presumption of permanent move.","body":"(a) A guardian may petition a court of this state which has jurisdiction over the guardianship to transfer the guardianship to a foreign court of competent jurisdiction if the minor has moved permanently to the foreign jurisdiction.\n(b) The minor may be presumed to have moved permanently to the foreign jurisdiction if:\n(1) The minor has resided in the foreign jurisdiction for more than 12 consecutive months;\n(2) The guardian notifies the court that the minor will move or has moved permanently to the foreign jurisdiction; or\n(3) A foreign court of competent jurisdiction notifies the court of the filing of a petition for guardianship for the minor in the foreign jurisdiction.\n(c) To facilitate the transfer the court may order the guardian to file a petition for receipt and acceptance of the guardianship in the foreign jurisdiction.\n(d) If the foreign jurisdiction does not have a procedure for receiving and accepting a foreign guardianship, the court may order the guardian to file a petition for guardianship in the foreign jurisdiction.","path":["TITLE 29 Guardian and Ward","CHAPTER 2 Guardians of Minors","Article 6 Jurisdiction","PART 3 Transfer of Guardianship"],"source_url":"https://archive.org/download/gov.ga.ocga.2018/release86.2022.11/gov.ga.ocga.title.29.odt","current_through":"Release 86 (2022-11)","vintage":"Public.Resource.Org bulk O.C.G.A., Release 86 (2022-11), retrieved 2026-09-17","retrieved_at":"2026-09-17T19:34:57Z","sha256":"59c87c6b9354ff7fa3b79a7d79d4042544fdde1554900c02084461139410ec38","source_id":"us-ga","stale":false,"prev":"us-ga/o.c.g.a.-29-2-68","next":"us-ga/o.c.g.a.-29-2-70"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
