{"data":{"id":"us-ga/o.c.g.a.-40-5-84","jurisdiction":"us-ga","citation":"O.C.G.A. § 40-5-84","heading":"Reinstatement of licenses suspended for certain offenses or for points.","body":"(a) Except as otherwise provided, the license of any person whose license is suspended for the first time as a result of the conviction of an offense listed in Code Section 40-5-54 shall, at the expiration of 120 days following the date the license is suspended, be reinstated by the department upon receipt by the department of a certificate of completion of an approved defensive driving course and the payment of a restoration fee of $210.00 or $200.00 when such reinstatement is processed by mail.\n(b) The license of any person whose license is suspended for the second time as a result of the conviction of an offense listed in Code Section 40-5-54 shall, at the expiration of 120 days following the date the license is suspended, be reinstated by the department upon receipt by the department of a certificate of completion of a defensive driving course approved by the department and the payment of a restoration fee of $310.00 or $300.00 when such reinstatement is processed by mail.\n(c) The license of any person whose license is suspended for the first time within a five-year period as a result of the assessment of points pursuant to Code Section 40-5-57 shall be reinstated by the department immediately upon receipt by the department of a certificate of completion of an approved defensive driving course and the payment of a restoration fee of $210.00 or $200.00 when such reinstatement is processed by mail.\n(d) The license of any person whose license is suspended for the second time within a five-year period as a result of the assessment of points pursuant to Code Section 40-5-57 shall be reinstated by the department immediately upon receipt by the department of a certificate of completion of an approved defensive driving course and the payment of a restoration fee of $310.00 or $300.00 when such reinstatement is processed by mail.\n(e) The license of any person whose license is suspended for the third or subsequent time within a five-year period as a result of the assessment of points pursuant to Code Section 40-5-57 shall be reinstated by the department upon receipt by the department of a certificate of completion of a defensive driving course approved by the department and the payment of a restoration fee of $410.00 or $400.00 when such reinstatement is processed by mail.","path":["TITLE 40 Motor Vehicles and Traffic","CHAPTER 5 Drivers’ Licenses","Article 4 Restoration of Licenses to Persons Completing Defensive Driving Course or Alcohol or Drug Program"],"source_url":"https://archive.org/download/gov.ga.ocga.2018/release86.2022.11/gov.ga.ocga.title.40.odt","current_through":"Release 86 (2022-11)","vintage":"Public.Resource.Org bulk O.C.G.A., Release 86 (2022-11), retrieved 2026-09-17","retrieved_at":"2026-09-17T19:34:57Z","sha256":"5e9a7924c05fb96abaec9ebaae5186f6b9f8bbda3d348e6c7b559f653df68b89","source_id":"us-ga","stale":false,"prev":"us-ga/o.c.g.a.-40-5-83.1","next":"us-ga/o.c.g.a.-40-5-85"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
