Stat. § 11-366","heading":"[ §11-366] Solicitations relating to disasters.","body":"[ §11-366] Solicitations relating to disasters. (a) No candidate, candidate committee, or noncandidate committee shall solicit a contribution in a manner that would lead a reasonable person to believe that the solicited contribution would primarily be used to provide assistance to persons directly affected by a disaster unless the solicitation includes an explicit disclosure that:\n\n(1) The solicited contributions are subject to state campaign finance law;\n\n(2) Contributions may be used to influence the outcomes of elections for political office or votes relating to ballot questions; and\n\n(3) Persons affected by the disaster may not necessarily benefit from any solicited contribution.\n\n(b) The disclosure described in subsection (a) shall be prominently displayed or announced in a manner that a reasonable person is likely to notice while reading, listening to, or observing the remainder of the solicitation.\n\n(c) A person who violates this section shall be guilty of a class C felony.\n\n(d) For the purposes of this section, \"disaster\" shall have the same meaning as defined in section 127A-2.","path":["HI Code","Division 1","Title 2","Chapter 11"],"source_url":"http://www.capitol.hawaii.gov/hrscurrent/Vol01_Ch0001-0042F/HRS0011/HRS_0011-0366.htm","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:11Z","sha256":"4a03142130e801064e3f8fdcc78a97a4ca2e58a65bf9f47fae9a977b6ca6f081","source_id":"us-hi","stale":false,"prev":"us-hi/haw.-rev.-stat.-11-365","next":"us-hi/haw.-rev.-stat.-11-372"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
