Stat. § 195-7","heading":"Powers and duties.","body":"The commission shall:\n\n(1) Establish criteria to be used in determining whether an area is suitable for inclusion with the reserves system;\n\n(2) Conduct studies of areas for possible inclusion within the reserves system;\n\n(3) Recommend to the governor and the department areas suitable for inclusion within the reserves system;\n\n(4) Establish policies and criteria regarding the management, protection, and permitted uses of areas which are part of the reserves system;\n\n(5) Advise the governor and the department on any matter relating to the preservation of Hawaii's unique natural resources;\n\n(6) Develop ways and means of extending and strengthening presently established preserves, sanctuaries, and refuges within the State;\n\n(7) Advise the department and other public agencies managing state-owned land or natural resources regarding areas under their respective jurisdictions which are or may be appropriate for designation as natural area reserves; and\n\n(8) In carrying out the above duties, consult the most comprehensive up-to-date compilation of scientific data on the communities of natural flora and fauna of Hawaii.","path":["HI Code","Division 1","Title 12","Chapter 195"],"source_url":"http://www.capitol.hawaii.gov/hrscurrent/Vol03_Ch0121-0200D/HRS0195/HRS_0195-0007.htm","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:11Z","sha256":"ddc175e38d71b019c60ab7292110a043ee4169e9cdce35ddb05e43d497d732eb","source_id":"us-hi","stale":false,"prev":"us-hi/haw.-rev.-stat.-195-6.6","next":"us-hi/haw.-rev.-stat.-195-8"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
