Stat. § 229-2","heading":"Hawaii sister-state and international partnerships commission.","body":"(a) There is established within the department of business, economic development, and tourism, for administrative purposes only, the Hawaii sister-state and international partnerships commission.\n\n(b) The commission shall support the governor, legislature, and office of international affairs in building and maintaining strategic long-term sister-state or province partnerships that promote and enrich the people, cultures, environments, and economies of the State and its international partners.\n\n(c) The commission shall consist of the following members:\n\n(1) Three members appointed by the governor, with the advice and consent of the senate; provided that two of the three members appointed by the governor shall be from a list of at least three nominees submitted respectively by the:\n\n(A) Office of Hawaiian affairs; and\n\n(B) Center for cultural and technical interchange between East and West, Inc.;\n\n(2) One member appointed by the president of the senate;\n\n(3) One member appointed by the speaker of the house of representatives; and\n\n(4) The chairs of the respective senate and house committees with jurisdiction over international affairs or intergovernmental affairs, who shall serve as ex-officio, non-voting members of the commission.\n\n(d) The commission shall elect from among its members a chairperson and vice chairperson.\n\n(e) Members of the commission shall serve without compensation but shall be reimbursed for expenses, including travel expenses, necessary for the performance of their duties.","path":["HI Code","Division 1","Title 13","Chapter 229"],"source_url":"http://www.capitol.hawaii.gov/hrscurrent/Vol04_Ch0201-0257/HRS0229/HRS_0229-0002.htm","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:11Z","sha256":"3f8e88f6e4e988f885b1f729fa21b3e045246aa18da40bc276ebd1ef8b2d3243","source_id":"us-hi","stale":false,"prev":"us-hi/haw.-rev.-stat.-229-1","next":"us-hi/haw.-rev.-stat.-229-3"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
