Stat. § 264-19.1","heading":"[ §264-19.","body":"[ §264-19.1] Microchip scanning of deceased animals on roadways. (a) The department of transportation shall:\n\n(1) Scan any cat or dog carcass found on a state roadway for a microchip;\n\n(2) Record any microchip number or other identifying information and a basic description of the animal, if discernible;\n\n(3) Notify the appropriate county animal services contractor or animal control agency within forty-eight hours of discovery; and\n\n(4) When feasible, make reasonable efforts to contact the registered owner of a deceased animal if microchip information is obtained.\n\n(b) The department of transportation may coordinate with the counties to share microchip scanner resources or protocols as needed.","path":["HI Code","Division 1","Title 15","Chapter 264"],"source_url":"http://www.capitol.hawaii.gov/hrscurrent/Vol05_Ch0261-0319/HRS0264/HRS_0264-0019_0001.htm","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:11Z","sha256":"79741672269bd076453338f50aa4776846db719cc25338cbc5b4b809880ba946","source_id":"us-hi","stale":false,"prev":"us-hi/haw.-rev.-stat.-264-19","next":"us-hi/haw.-rev.-stat.-264-2"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
