Stat. § 286-71","heading":"Autocycles.","body":"(a) Every autocycle, as described in paragraph (2) of the definition of \"motorcycle\" in section 286-2, operated in this State shall first be registered as a motor vehicle as provided in section 286-41.\n\n(b) No person shall operate an autocycle on a public street, road, or highway in this State unless the person possesses a valid type 3 driver's license pursuant to section 286-102(b)(3) and the autocycle has been duly registered pursuant to subsection (a).\n\n(c) Occupants in an autocycle not equipped with a front windshield shall use eye protection.\n\n(d) All occupants in an autocycle shall comply with the seat belt requirements under section 291-11.6.\n\n(e) All dealers, sellers, lessors, and rental agencies shall be required to disclose the following, if true, regarding each autocycle offered for sale, lease, or rent, as applicable:\n\n(1) The autocycle does not meet the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards for passenger vehicles and light trucks;\n\n(2) The autocycle is not equipped with airbags; and\n\n(3) Autocycle rollover protection has not been certified to protect an occupant from injury in the event of a rollover; therefore, the use of a department of transportation certified safety helmet is recommended when operating an autocycle.","path":["HI Code","Division 1","Title 17","Chapter 286"],"source_url":"http://www.capitol.hawaii.gov/hrscurrent/Vol05_Ch0261-0319/HRS0286/HRS_0286-0071.htm","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:11Z","sha256":"40ea8e922116f561e262b2783e724e373b99f2f75cc23ea6108b1c0be704638d","source_id":"us-hi","stale":false,"prev":"us-hi/haw.-rev.-stat.-286-7.5","next":"us-hi/haw.-rev.-stat.-286-72"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
