Stat. § 302A-411","heading":"Kindergarten program; establishment; attendance.","body":"(a) The department shall establish and maintain kindergartens with a program of instruction as a part of the public school system; provided that:\n\n(1) Attendance in kindergarten shall be mandatory, unless exempted by subsection (b) or section 302A-1132; and\n\n(2) Charter schools shall not be excluded from mandatory participation in the program.\n\n(b) Beginning with the 2014-2015 school year, any parent, guardian, or other person having the responsibility for, or care of, a child who will be at least five years of age on or before July 31 of the school year shall enroll the child in a public school kindergarten unless the child is enrolled at a private school or the child's attendance is otherwise exempt under section 302A-1132.\n\n(c) The department may accept gifts to establish and maintain kindergartens.","path":["HI Code","Division 1","Title 18","Chapter 302A"],"source_url":"http://www.capitol.hawaii.gov/hrscurrent/Vol05_Ch0261-0319/HRS0302A/HRS_0302A-0411.htm","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:11Z","sha256":"414b65d70efddd20f0eab28b632f3ab081eb3a3ae85a60195cac303037e86406","source_id":"us-hi","stale":false,"prev":"us-hi/haw.-rev.-stat.-302a-409","next":"us-hi/haw.-rev.-stat.-302a-412"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
