Stat. § 304A-1753","heading":"Contract necessary for filling of positions.","body":"In order to fill a position under this subpart, a person shall enter into a contract with the school of medicine of the University of Hawaii stating that the person:\n\n(1) Agrees to participate in the residency program for the minimum period required to qualify for the licensure examination under chapter 453;\n\n(2) Agrees to obtain a permanent license to practice medicine and surgery or osteopathy under chapter 453 as soon as possible following termination of participation in the residency program;\n\n(3) Agrees to serve for two years as:\n\n(A) An officer or employee of the department of corrections and rehabilitation who is based in a correctional facility and whose normal course of duty requires medical treatment of inmates of the facility, another correctional facility, or both; or\n\n(B) An officer or employee of the department of health who is employed to provide primary medical care to residents of and to be based in a rural community with a shortage of physicians; and\n\n(4) Agrees to commence fulfilling the requirement under paragraph (3) immediately following the termination of participation in the residency program and licensure.","path":["HI Code","Division 1","Title 18","Chapter 304A"],"source_url":"http://www.capitol.hawaii.gov/hrscurrent/Vol05_Ch0261-0319/HRS0304A/HRS_0304A-1753.htm","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:11Z","sha256":"9bf2be58332d1c79826a44a07bde5c665928b8ffd3c0e31aad0c56ccb6c67557","source_id":"us-hi","stale":false,"prev":"us-hi/haw.-rev.-stat.-304a-1752","next":"us-hi/haw.-rev.-stat.-304a-1754"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
