Stat. § 453-34","heading":"Licensure consistent with levels of practice; licensure of emergency medical technician 1.","body":"(a) The Hawaii medical board shall issue licenses upon application therefor, consistent with the following levels of practice:\n\n(1) Emergency medical technician 1;\n\n(2) Emergency medical technician;\n\n(3) Advanced emergency medical technician; or\n\n(4) Mobile intensive care technician or paramedic.\n\n(b) Beginning July 1, 2022, the Hawaii medical board shall accept applications for licensure as an emergency medical technician 1; provided that the applicant shall:\n\n(1) Demonstrate successful completion of a Hawaii medical board-approved emergency medical technician course that meets or exceeds the National Emergency Medical Services Education Standards for Emergency Medical Technicians;\n\n(2) Provide a current cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification;\n\n(3) Demonstrate proficiency in basic life support for health care providers;\n\n(4) Demonstrate successful completion of the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians emergency medical technician cognitive examination and National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians psychomotor examination;\n\n(5) Pay any fees assessed in amounts equivalent to fees paid by emergency medical technicians pursuant to section 16-53-21.5, Hawaii Administrative Rules; and\n\n(6) Meet any other requirements determined by the Hawaii medical board.\n\n(c) Any emergency medical technician 1 licensed under this part shall document care in a pre-hospital emergency medical records system compatible with the emergency medical services system's pre-hospital medical records system. Emergency medical technicians 1 shall:\n\n(1) Practice under a physician or osteopathic physician licensed pursuant to this chapter; and\n\n(2) Restrict their scope of practice to the performance of basic emergency medical care of patients.","path":["HI Code","Division 2","Title 25","Chapter 453"],"source_url":"http://www.capitol.hawaii.gov/hrscurrent/Vol10_Ch0436-0474/HRS0453/HRS_0453-0034.htm","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:11Z","sha256":"df1d7aea4282544bb65571f7db7c99ffca05121cb0bcd36caea37e714cd907f6","source_id":"us-hi","stale":false,"prev":"us-hi/haw.-rev.-stat.-453-33","next":"us-hi/haw.-rev.-stat.-453-4"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
