Stat. § 583A-202","heading":"Exclusive, continuing jurisdiction.","body":"(a) Except as otherwise provided in section 583A-204, a court of this State which has made a child-custody determination consistent with section 583A-201 or 583A-203 has exclusive, continuing jurisdiction over the determination until:\n\n(1) A court of this State determines that the child, the child's parents, and any person acting as a parent do not have a significant connection with this State and that substantial evidence is no longer available in this State concerning the child's care, protection, training, and personal relationships; or\n\n(2) A court of this State or a court of another state determines that the child, the child's parents, and any person acting as a parent do not presently reside in this State.\n\n(b) A court of this State which has made a child-custody determination and does not have exclusive, continuing jurisdiction under this section may modify that determination only if it has jurisdiction to make an initial determination under section 583A-201.","path":["HI Code","Division 3","Title 31","Chapter 583A"],"source_url":"http://www.capitol.hawaii.gov/hrscurrent/Vol12_Ch0501-0588/HRS0583A/HRS_0583A-0202.htm","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:11Z","sha256":"b8a30d739daafd0b6fdde0aa065bba423b8749dfedf5654fd01bfba2a6b0aa51","source_id":"us-hi","stale":false,"prev":"us-hi/haw.-rev.-stat.-583a-112","next":"us-hi/haw.-rev.-stat.-583a-203"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
