{"data":{"id":"us-ia/iowa-code-256e.2","jurisdiction":"us-ia","citation":"Iowa Code § 256E.2","heading":"Definitions.","body":"As used in this chapter, unless the context otherwise requires:\n1. “Attendance center” means a school building that contains classrooms used for instructional purposes for elementary, middle, or secondary school students.\n2. “Charter school” means a school established in accordance with this chapter.\n3. “Department” means the department of education.\n4. “Education service provider” means an education management organization, charter school management organization, or other person with whom a charter school contracts for educational program implementation or comprehensive management.\n5. “Founding group” means a person, group of persons, or education service provider that develops and submits an application for a charter school to the state board under this chapter.\n6. “Governing board” means the independent board of a charter school whose members are elected or selected pursuant to the charter school contract, subject to the requirements of section 256E.7, subsection 11.\n7. “School board” means a board of directors regularly elected by the registered voters of an accredited public school district.\n8. “State board” means the state board of education.","path":["Title VII - EDUCATION, HISTORY, AND CULTURE (Ch. 256 - 305B)","Chapter 256E - CHARTER SCHOOLS — SCHOOL BOARD AND FOUNDING GROUP MODELS"],"source_url":"https://www.legis.iowa.gov/docs/code/2026/256E.2.pdf","current_through":"Iowa Code 2026 edition","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:40:06Z","sha256":"2a5dd29dcb499d46eb0ce3e639486d6166e8748962dc59b682e3ca1adffb2dc9","source_id":"us-ia","stale":false,"prev":"us-ia/iowa-code-256e.1","next":"us-ia/iowa-code-256e.3"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
