{"data":{"id":"us-ia/iowa-code-27.1","jurisdiction":"us-ia","citation":"Iowa Code § 27.1","heading":"Definitions.","body":"For purposes of this chapter:\n1. “Monitoring device” means a digital video or audio streaming or recording device that is part of a system of monitoring activity in an area or building using a system in which signals are transmitted from a video camera or microphone to the receivers by cables or wirelessly, forming a closed circuit.\n2. “Public hospital” means a hospital licensed pursuant to chapter 135B and governed pursuant to chapter 145A, 263, 347, 347A, or 392.\n3. “Public library” means a library district as described in chapter 336.\n4. “Public school” means a school district as described in chapter 274.\n5. “Reasonable expectation of privacy” means a person’s reasonable belief, under the circumstances, that the person can disrobe or partially disrobe in privacy without being concerned that the person is being viewed, photographed, or filmed when doing so.","path":["Title I - STATE SOVEREIGNTY AND MANAGEMENT (Ch. 1 - 38D)","Chapter 27 - MONITORING DEVICES IN PUBLIC LOCATIONS"],"source_url":"https://www.legis.iowa.gov/docs/code/2026/27.1.pdf","current_through":"Iowa Code 2026 edition","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:40:00Z","sha256":"e544816833247dc4a989983ef74f670e385b45e9698c31470324d94c7d938e95","source_id":"us-ia","stale":false,"prev":"us-ia/iowa-code-26a.4","next":"us-ia/iowa-code-27.2"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
