{"data":{"id":"us-ia/iowa-code-323a.1","jurisdiction":"us-ia","citation":"Iowa Code § 323A.1","heading":"Definitions.","body":"For purposes of this chapter, unless the context otherwise requires:\n1. “E-85 gasoline” means the same as defined in section 214A.1.\n2. “Ethanol blended gasoline” means the same as defined in section 214A.1.\n3. “Franchise” means a contract between a refiner and a distributor, a refiner and a retailer, a distributor and another distributor, or a distributor and a retailer under which a refiner or distributor authorizes a retailer or distributor to use, in connection with the sale, consignment, or distribution of motor fuel, a trademark which is owned or controlled by the refiner or by a refiner which supplies motor fuel to the distributor which authorizes the use. “Franchise” includes any contract under which a retailer or distributor is permitted to occupy leased premises, which premises are to be used in connection with the sale, consignment, or distribution of motor fuel under a trademark which is owned or controlled by a refiner or a refiner which supplies motor fuel to the distributor and permits the occupancy of the leased premises.\n4. “Franchisor” means a refiner or distributor who authorizes or permits, under a franchise, a retailer or distributor to use a trademark in connection with the sale, consignment, or distribution of motor fuel.\n5. “Franchisee” means a retailer or distributor who is authorized or permitted, under a franchise, to use a trademark in connection with the sale, consignment, or distribution of motor fuel.\n6. “Motor fuel” means the same as motor fuel as defined in section 214A.1, which is of a type distributed for use as a fuel in self-propelled vehicles designed primarily for use on public streets, roads, and highways.","path":["Title VIII - TRANSPORTATION (Ch. 306 - 330B)","Chapter 323A - PURCHASING FUEL FROM ALTERNATE SOURCES"],"source_url":"https://www.legis.iowa.gov/docs/code/2026/323A.1.pdf","current_through":"Iowa Code 2026 edition","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:40:08Z","sha256":"26f181ba8f80dac63f9d83e65a1da9c8b6702a4f2b5a8c77a37bd690991b74b7","source_id":"us-ia","stale":false,"prev":"us-ia/iowa-code-323.14","next":"us-ia/iowa-code-323a.2"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
