{"data":{"id":"us-id/idaho-code-19-6303","jurisdiction":"us-id","citation":"Idaho Code § 19-6303","heading":"definitions.","body":"As used in this chapter:\n(1) \"Crime\" means any felony or misdemeanor committed in this state that results in a conviction.\n(2) \"Exploit\" or \"exploitation\" means knowingly and commercially deriving financial gain where the criminal notoriety of a crime is a substantial contributing factor to the value of the proceeds. Incidental, educational, journalistic, or expressive references to a crime that are not undertaken for the purpose of deriving commercial gain from criminal notoriety shall not constitute exploitation under the provisions of this chapter.\n(3) \"Notoriety of a crime\" means the public attention from a crime when directly connected to the offender’s part in the crime.\n(4) \"Offender\" means a person convicted of a criminal offense in this state.\n(5) \"Proceeds\" means any money, royalties, or other thing of value received by an offender that is derived from the criminal notoriety of a crime, regardless of the medium or form in which the proceeds are generated.\n(6) \"Victim\" is as defined in section 19-5304, Idaho Code.","path":["TITLE 19 CRIMINAL PROCEDURE","CHAPTER 63 IDAHO SON OF SAM LAW"],"source_url":"https://legislature.idaho.gov/statutesrules/idstat/title19/t19ch63/sect19-6303/","current_through":"2026 Legislative Session","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-04T14:07:59Z","sha256":"ec92f4a040fa67f1d9e9efa640158bce070f7dd45b84c7763cfccb6bce750d6c","source_id":"us-id","stale":false,"prev":"us-id/idaho-code-19-6302","next":"us-id/idaho-code-19-6304"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
