{"data":{"id":"us-il/20-ilcs-864-15","jurisdiction":"us-il","citation":"20 ILCS 864/15","heading":"Duties of Commission.","body":"(Section scheduled to be repealed on January 1, 2037)\nThe Commission shall have the following duties:\n(1) to provide resources for individuals and local entities seeking to learn more about the Underground Railroad in Illinois, including:\n(A) an online resource website, including, but not limited to maps of journeys, historical sites, and conductor cemetery markers;\n(B) a calendar of related events in this State;\n(C) research sources and bibliographies;\n(D) videos and links to videos; and\n(E) pictures, brief histories, and other materials developed locally and at the State level;\n(2) collaborate with organizations focusing on the Underground Railroad, including:\n(A) local and regional Underground Railroad groups;\n(B) county and regional historical societies;\n(C) museums, especially museums that focus on slavery and the African American experience;\n(D) academic programs, especially African American Studies at the college level and history departments; and\n(E) organizations in African American communities;\n(3) to create a grant funding program;\n(4) to work with the National Park Service's Network to Freedom program and serve as a liaison between the National Park Service and local entities;\n(5) to explore heritage tourism opportunities connecting the locations of freedom seeker journeys and Underground Railroad sites, working with the Illinois Office of Tourism and regional tourism agencies; and\n(6) to connect freedom seekers and Underground Railroad stories to the range of freedom stories across and throughout the history of Illinois.","path":["CHAPTER 20 EXECUTIVE BRANCH","Illinois Freedom Trails Commission Act."],"source_url":"https://www.ilga.gov/legislation/ILCS/details?ActID=4611\u0026ChapterID=5\u0026ChapAct=FullText\u0026Print=True","current_through":"at least Public Act 104-790","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-15T04:46:14Z","sha256":"150a6a4a29b157a52dcd9dc8fa2114aa07bed39f51c174699fcb368ea0852a62","source_id":"us-il","stale":false,"prev":"us-il/20-ilcs-864-10","next":"us-il/20-ilcs-864-20"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
