{"data":{"id":"us-il/215-ilcs-5-285.1","jurisdiction":"us-il","citation":"215 ILCS 5/285.1","heading":"Definitions.","body":"(Section scheduled to be repealed on January 1, 2037)\nWhenever used in this amendatory Act:\n(a) \"Benefit contract\" shall mean the agreement for provision of benefits authorized by Section 297.1 of this amendatory Act as that agreement is described in Section 300.1 of this amendatory Act;\n(b) \"Benefit member\" shall mean an adult member who is designated by the laws or rules of the society to be a benefit member under a benefit contract;\n(c) \"Certificate\" shall mean the document issued as written evidence of the benefit contract;\n(d) \"Premiums\" shall mean premiums, rates, dues or other required contributions, by whatever name known, which are payable under the certificate;\n(e) \"Laws\" shall mean the society's articles of incorporation, constitution and bylaws, however designated;\n(f) \"Life insurer\" shall mean an insurance company authorized to transact in this State the insurance business classified as Class 1, Clause (a) or (b) in Section 4 of this Code;\n(g) \"Rules\" shall mean all rules, regulations or resolutions adopted by the supreme governing body or board of directors which are intended to have general application to the members of the society;\n(h) \"Society\" shall mean fraternal benefit society, unless otherwise indicated; and\n(i) \"Lodge\" shall mean subordinate member units of the society, known as camps, courts, councils, branches or by any other designation.","path":["CHAPTER 215 INSURANCE","Illinois Insurance Code."],"source_url":"https://www.ilga.gov/legislation/ILCS/details?ActID=1249\u0026ChapterID=22\u0026ChapAct=FullText\u0026Print=True","current_through":"at least Public Act 104-790","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-15T04:46:30Z","sha256":"36a067ab274a48daa99c6f20f2eb622d48bcdce2bd43734f4d3c6ac52f7544da","source_id":"us-il","stale":false,"prev":"us-il/215-ilcs-5-284.1","next":"us-il/215-ilcs-5-286.1"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
